2025年2月現在、日本全国でおたふくかぜワクチン（ムンプスワクチン）の供給が著しく不足しています。製造メーカーの一部が出荷を一時停止しており、今後の供給再開には半年以上かかる見込みとされています。
As of February 2025, there is a nationwide shortage of the mumps vaccine (mumps, also known as epidemic parotitis) in Japan. One of the major manufacturers has temporarily suspended shipments, and stable supply is not expected to resume for at least six months.

Why Mumps Vaccine is Important
おたふくかぜは軽症に見えることもありますが、ムンプス髄膜炎や難聴、不妊症の原因となる精巣炎など、重篤な合併症を引き起こす可能性があります。特に思春期以降の発症では重症化しやすく、後遺症のリスクも高くなります。
Mumps may appear mild but can lead to serious complications such as mumps meningitis, hearing loss, and orchitis, which may cause infertility. It is especially severe when contracted after puberty, and may leave permanent sequelae.
現在の医学では、いったん発症したおたふくかぜを完全に治す治療法はありません。予防接種が唯一の予防策です。
There is no definitive cure once you contract mumps. Vaccination remains the only reliable prevention.

Recommended Vaccination Schedule
厚生労働省および日本小児科学会では、以下の2回接種を推奨しています。
The Ministry of Health and the Japan Pediatric Society recommend two doses:
- 1回目：1歳時（定期接種と同時期）
- 2回目：就学前（年長児）
